Michael "Scotty" McGuire: Our Forever Coach

Scotty coached 10 seasons as Chariho High School’s Girls' Assistant Soccer Coach. Scotty was a Chariho alumni, who graduated in 1970. Scotty was born in Glasgow Scotland and came to the states in 1967. A true Celtic fan, Scotty grew up playing and watching the game, and quickly fell in love with the sport. He played for numerous teams in Scotland and the U.S. including Cullen United and the Pawtucket Rangers. At Chariho, Scotty quickly made a name for himself as a quick attacking midfielder. Scotty was awarded 1st Team All-State and made the RIIL Coaches and Providence Journal's Teams his Junior and Senior Year. Scotty was inducted into the Chariho Hall of Fame for his soccer successes. Scotty started coaching Westerly and Chariho Youth Programs and was the Assistant Girls' Soccer Coach at Westerly High School for 9 years during the late 80's-early 90's. Scotty made his transition to coaching the Chariho Girls High School Team in 2015. Scotty held a D Coaching License and was an active member of the Chariho Sports Boosters. Scotty's goal was to share his knowledge and love of the game in order to develop skillful and intelligent players. One of his favorite quotes was, "I'm not into surprising opponents. I want them to fear us because they know what is coming." - Celtic manager, Ronny Deila. Scotty will always be remembered as his respect for the game and love for all things soccer was contagious. His absence has been deeply felt but his spirit will always be with us -- in every practice, every game, every cheer from the sideline.
